Golden Hour in Wigan
These amazing brick buildings are in Crawford Street in Wigan.
The old church - across the road from the houses above.
An old mill in Dorning Street.
This is Wigan Pier - mostly disused these days. The canal is the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
George Orwell wrote about it - "The Road to Wigan Pier", George Formby sang about it, and the name "Wigan Pier" seems to have started as a joke due to Wigan being landlocked, but the landlocked dwellers gravitated to the canal walkways the way that tourists would gravitate to a pier at the sea-side.
George Orwell's name lives on.
A bridge making a stark contrast between the sun on the buildings and the deep shade.
The old brick buildings around Wigan have a lot of character.
Another really good bit of architecture - another industrial building, but much smaller than the mills.
There are quite a few cottages next to the canal, whether these were canal workers or mill workers cottages I do not know.
The difference in scale is quite stark and the houses are very close to the mill.

Reflections in the Canal - for the time of year (09 January 2019) when these were taken, the Golden Hour seemed to last for ages.
